The connection with this Italian town begins when Achille Varzi arrived in Argentina to run in the first international seasons 1947/48 in the circuits of Retiro and Palermo , then met the local pilots who were making their first appearances in the high competition.

In 1948, in support to the ACA project to train certain Argentine pilots in the details of factories and race cars, and in order to create a national team, Aquiles Varzi offered his house and his workshop in Galliate.

On July 6th, 1948, while testing his Alfetta 158 in Bern, he suffered a fatal accident. Motivated by that mission, the group of Argentine pilots with Fangio as the head, was in the circuit when the accident took place, so they decided to move to Galliate to attend the funeral of the Italian pilot.
On that occasion, the engineer Menotti Varzi, father of Achilles, reiterated the offer of his son.

In 1949, the Argentine Competition Team was integrated by Juan Manuel Fangio (captain), Benedicto Campos and Clemar Bucci. It was also decided to transfer the race cars to the port of Genoa and then to Novara, on the Dodge, Guerrero and Kaiser and Frazer trucks driven by Fangio and Campos, and they were placed in a warehouse that began to take the shape of a workshop, very close to the residence of Varzi, which housed the pilots and the Mechanic Chief.
At the time, there were three Maserati 4CLT / 48 - 1500 cc with compressor and two Simca Gordini 1430 cc, and later two Ferraris 166 were added that year.
The first intervention of the Team took place in San Remo, on April 2nd, 1949. There, Fangio won with the Maserati 4CLT / 48, with Campos in fourth place. Consecutively, Fangio achieved three more victories: in Pau, with the Maserati 4 CLT, in Marseille, with a Simca Gordini, and in Perpignan, again with Maserati. Four races and four victories, followed by the fans through the vibrating radio stories of Luis Elías Sojit and his brother Manuel “Córner”.
With the resources obtained from these competitions, the team acquires a third Fiat truck.

The satisfactions and joys continued. Another triumph was about to come with Fangio in Albi, with Maserati, and another one in Monza, with the brand-new Ferrari 166, which had been received three days before the race.
